Sarees worth lakhs seized
Bellary, dhns: Sarees worth Rs 20 lakh, that were stored in a suspicious manner, was seized by the police in Bellary on Wednesday evening.
The Bellary-Hyderabad Roadways Company at Pullaiah compound behind Sangam theatre was raided by the police. During the raid 92 bundles of sarees was seized. These sarees are said to have been bought from Hyderabad, according to sources. The sarees did not have the symbols of any political party or the photographs of any political leaders. However, owing to suspicion the sarees have been seized and the investigation is on, informed election officer Adnoor and Additional Superintendent of Police F A Trasgar.
Ansari, Khadri arrested
Gangavathi (Koppal district): Former mInister and JD(S) leader Iqbal Ansari and S B Khadri were arrested at Chikkajantakal near Gangavati on charges of transporting T- shirts and party flags on Wednesday night. Police said the two were transporting 8000 T-shirts and 6000 party flags. They were later released on bail. After his release, Ansari alleged that the code of conduct did not ban T-shirts and party flags. Officials lacked knowledge, he claimed, threatening to move the EC on the issue.
Cash for photos!
Bangalore, dhns: Political parties resort to various tricks for media coverage during polls, as seen during filing of nominations. Candidates are keen on getting a place for photos of them submitting papers, in print. Followers of a BJP candidate in Bangalore, on Wednesday, went to the extent of offering cash to a section of media to please them for the coverage. Party workers had brought packets with cash and handed over them soon after the nomination papers were submitted!
