Never too late for Vaastu
S B S Surendran
Vaastu and Fengshui have reached such popular heights that they are now the talk of the town. Vaastu and Fengshui have reached such popular heights that they are now the ‘talk of the town’. With the increase in popularity and adaptation of this wonderful art and science that enhances the basic comfort levels of the individuals, there has also been a situation of lot of ‘misconception and misinterpretation’ of the tenets of Vaastu and Fengshui.

The general guidelines are basic thumb rules which need to be looked into while designing a home as per Vaastu or Fengshui. However, these are basic tenets and not specific to the individuals who would occupy. It is always better to design homes and offices specific to the key people, but if you are already in a place of dwelling which has deviated from the norms as prescribed in Vaastu or Fengshui, one could still make some minor changes without having to carry out major structural changes by implementing some basic cures as per Fengshui.

We need to keep in mind that in a city we cannot have too many options in choosing the direction a plot or house faces, so irrespective of the facing directions, one could adapt intelligent planning and décor to counter the ill effects of main doors. This at times will call for a interaction between the property owner, architect and the Fengshui/Vaastu consultant, as many things could be incorporated right at the stage of construction rather than redoing the home or office once the place is ready.

If you have a home or office with any of the following main door directions you could counter the affliction and activate good energy by some simple changes:-

1. If your main door faces south, you could either paint it deep maroon, shades of pale yellow or splashes of shades of vermillion red, or place plenty of green and tall healthy plants on either sides of the door. This would counter the ill effects of the door wrongly positioned

2.  If your main door faces north, suspending a 6 rod-all metal wind chime and the tinkling of the chimes would dilute the ill effects of the surroundings and the main door. Colours - off white, pale blue and light teak are good for this direction.

3.  If your main door faces east or southeast, placing a single urn filled with water and fresh flower petals to the left of the door from inside, would aid this direction as east is considered auspicious from Vaastu point of view. The ill effect of the southeast door is nullified with the decorative urn of water with fresh flowers, and placing plenty of plants inside and outside the southeast door will correct the ill effect of this door direction.

4. If your main door faces west, the door brings in the evening sun and this can be controlled by suspending faceted glass crystals near the main door which refracts the evening light and reduces the harshness and with it the effect of the spectrum of colours transforms the energy around the doorway.

Placing plants like ‘Tulsi’ at the northeast sector of the plot or even in balconies (in small containers not heavy), can transform any bad energy into positive and good energy due to their medicinal attributes. Similarly Jasmine plant can bring in a flow of good energy with the wisp of its fragrance.

Creating a right environment and a right frame of mind ensures that Feng Shui or Vaastu gets activated faster and better for a harmonious living.
