Putting together folk and fabric for Bangalore's fashion conscious are Kolkata based designers Mita Jayanta Pal, a West Bengal State awardee and Jayanta Pal.
Sarees, dress materials, cholis, bed spreads, quilts, wall hangings, TV covers with Nakshi Kantha work is what the designer duo have in the offing. Folk themes dominate the soft, tussar and cotton fabrics that are priced between Rs 250 and Rs 12,000.
A TV cover, which if framed can also make for a good wall piece, is what stands out in the collection. The embroidery that uses purple, red, rust threads against the natural tussar background, depicts the great battle between Karna and Arjuna. The item which boasts of great detailing comes with a price tag of Rs 5,000. A saree with a Harappa story board also makes for an exclusive pick.
The saree comes with pastel parrot green skirt border embroidery and is priced at Rs 4,000. The saree collection is priced anywhere between Rs 3,000 and 6,000. The exhibition is on at the Vermilion House, Cleveland Road Cross, Frazer Town, from 11 am to 7 pm, till April 26.
The Pals are planning their next exhibition in the City for October. The collection will include vegetable dye embroidered fabrics.
