Nandita Das in Pak film at Tribeca fest

A movie starring Indian actress Nandita Das and based on the real-life story of a Pakistani Hindu family will be screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.


The story is about a seven-year-old boy and his father who accidentally cross the border into India and are jailed.

Ramchand Pakistani hopes to bring India and Pakistan closer by showing the emotional turmoil of ordinary people on both sides. The film’s tagline is “Two nations Poised for War. One Family Torn Apart”.

The films is produced by Pakistani filmmaker Mehreen Jabbar. Nandita Das plays the woman whose husband and son are jailed for being spies.

Seventy-nine other films from 41 countries will be screened at the festival starting Saturday till May 4. The film is likely to be released in India and Pakistan soon.

The film revolves around Ramchand, who grows up in an Indian prison with his father, but with no memory of his mother, who has been searching for them.

Ramchand Pakistani bagged the Global Film Initiative Grant, an initiative to support films that inter-cultural understanding.
