A man-eater leopard prowling in the Terai belt in central Uttar Pradesh districts of Baharaich and Lakhimpur-Kheri has claimed its seventh victim when it killed a woman near Chaura village in Lakhimpur-Kheri.
According to reports, the half eaten body of Rama Devi was recovered from the nearby sugarcane fields on Friday. It was the second kill by the beast in as many days creating panic among the villagers.
The beast had earlier killed an eleven-year-old girl in Jethna village in the same district. District forest officer K K Singh told Deccan Herald on Saturday that the pugmarks of the animal indicated that it was a leopard, which had strayed into the village from the nearby forests.
Maneater leopards have killed several people in the Terai districts of Lakhimpur Kheri and Baharaich in the past three months.
Earlier this month a man was killed by a leopard in Sujauli village in the Terai district of Baharaich.
