Set to head the new government in Nepal, the Maoist party on Saturday said it was against playing China card or India card against the two countries.
Senior CPN (Maoist) leader C P Gajurel said his party with the support of other parties will form the government in Nepal and frame a new constitution that would commit the country to pursue the poliicy of “equi-proximity” with its two larger neighbours China and India. “Our party is against playing China card or India card against the two nations or having special relations with one a the cost of the other.”
“Lying between the two countries does not mean that we will be sandwiched. Rather, we will take advantage of the experiences of the two countries on how to become self-reliant and enhance our economy”, said Gajurel.
Gajurel insisted upon repealing certain provisions of the 1950 India-Nepal Friendship Treaty. He said Nepal would soon become a federal democratic state.
