Jayanagar Sports Club boys’ and girls’ teams made it to the semifinals with convincing wins at the State junior (U-18) basketball championship at the Sree Kanteerava stadium outdoor courts here on Saturday.
Jayanagar boys sailed past Vidyaniketan Sports Club 53-32 while their girls team routed Pattabhiramnagar 43-11 in the quarterfinals. In the boys’ section match for Prof R N Rajanna Trophy, JSC shot into an early lead well before Vidyaniketan could settle down. Sujan and Nanda Kumar, who chipped in with nine points, did the bulk of the scoring in the first quarter which Jayanagars led 17-6. They further stretched the lead to 27-14 at half-time.
It was the same old story in the third quarter. Though, Vidyaniketan’s Akash Subbaiah, who basketted a match-high 18 points, put a solid effort in the fourth quarter, he couldn’t turn it into an outright victory.
Earlier, Jayanagar girls spearheaded by Vijayalekshmi (15 points) and Anusha (10) entered the last four stage of Sosale Trophy.
