Villagers lay siege to police station, police lathicharge
DH News Service, Kolar:

The villagers of the Chaldiganahalli village on Monday laid siege to the Vemagal police station, alleging that police had not taken proper action against the two thieves who had stolen cables and were handed to the police by people. The police had remanded the thieves to the judicial custody.

The police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the crowd gathered at the police station.

From past many days the cables wires in many  pumpsets of the Chaldiganahalli were being stolen. On Sunday night the thieves Ahmed and Rajesh were caught red handed. The villagers had tied up the thieves before handing over them to the police on Monday.

But police registered a case against the duo and remanded them to the judicial custody with out doing much inquiry.

This infuriated the villagers as they believed that thieves were behind many such thefts in their village and  they laid siege to the police station. DySP Mohan Reddy who had rushed to the place convinced the villagers that proper action would be taken. Even villagers assured to take back the protest.

But villagers rather moving away from the place started staging a rasta roko. Though police urged the villagers to call off the rasta roko villagers didn’t pay any heed to it, resulting in the DySP ordering the police to lathicharge in order to disperse the villagers.
