A road to which leads to nowhere?
Sir,
It was in October 2004, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) started the road widening and drainage work on Wind Tunnel road between Texas Instruments and Airport road.
Even after three years and six months, the sides are yet to be asphalted and there are around 100 patches on the drain yet to be dug up, or concreted or covered up. In the meanwhile, there is a mad rush to occupy the unfinished portions of the road by the vendors.
There are 17 kiosks (two of the permanent residences with kitchen and toilet), 20 fresh vendors, 12 vegetable vendors, three tarpaulin restaurants and the road also serves as a parking place for two autorickshaw stands and at least a dozen taxis at one time!
This leaves not even an inch of space for pedestrians to walk. And when you see the chaos on the road, one wonders whether there is any governance at all in our city!

Barbarity
Sir,
In the light of a news report on an elephant killing three people in a temple in Kerala, we need to look at the abuse of elephants in Kerala and south Canara, where the elephants are tortured to make them obey orders.
Why should the elephant bless us? It is a delusion. It is time we reform ourselves and liberate the elephants from temple service. Animals should not be brought between us and our gods.

Systematic torture
Sir,
I appreciate Leela Ramaswamy’s truly timely and excellent article (DH, April 28), on the torture meted out to the elephants in Kerala. These poor elephants, like elephants in Rajasthan, Bihar and other states, are tortured systematically and unconscionably by the mahouts.
This is a blot upon the conscience of this nation. The authorities in each state must put a stop to this ongoing torture and daily, hourly maltreatment of the defenceless giants.

Party hoppers
Sir,
The party hoppers in political parties have made it their profession to hoodwink the common man and get their desired results. They act as middle men and earn huge sums of money and some of them are worse than rowdies. Hence people should be wary of such chameleons.

Maximum action
Sir,
No punishment can be considered too harsh for the type of atrocious conduct that Harbhajan Singh has displayed in the IPL match. If Harbhajan, in the heat of the moment and mental dejection, had slapped a foreign cricketer instead of Sreesanth, think about the hue and cry it would have created!
It is the responsibility of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to enforce maximum disciplinary action so that such incidents are not repeated.

One more feather
Sir,
The successful PSLV launch by ISRO that resulted in placement of a record number of ten satellites simultaneously into their respective orbits accurately, is surely, one more feather in its cap. ISRO scientists deserve to be applauded for this singularly significant achievement.
This success will naturally boost the morale of all space scientists at the launch centre motivating them to work with more drive, vigour, vitality and confidence from now on.
