But skipper Rahul Dravid and Chief Cricket Officer Martin Crowe expressed confidence that the team had what it took to to turn things around.
Dravid said on Tuesday they were viewing Wednesday’s match against Delhi Daredevils as a stepping stone to a brighter future.
"Every match is important and the match against Delhi Daredevils assumes importance because we have to win matches on a consistent basis here on to reach semifinals. In T20 you need to be flexible. In the match against Chennai, we lost too many wickets towards the end and we cannot repeat such things," Dravid said.
Crowe's theory to dehumanise the opposition and knock out each colour might not have yielded the desired results so far. But the former New Zealand captain too was confident of a comeback.
"We are on a fast learning curve. We are looking forward to systematic contribution from the team members in the remaining matches. We are a strong bowling unit, but we have been leaking 15-20 runs more in most of the matches. It has to be rectified," he said.
Crowe also said veteran leg-spinner Anil Kumble was not hundred percent, while all-rounder B Akhil too was recovering from a groin injury.
Dravid said the IPL schedule was a challenging one. "It has been a challenging one for us and all other teams. We are playing matches almost every third day or so. But luckily, most of the matches are at 8 o' clock. So there is a bit of time to breathe," he said.
Bangalore will miss the services of Ross Taylor after Wednesday's game as the hard-hitting batsman will join the New Zealand squad for the England series. "Ross is irreplaceable. But we have to balance his absence with other players and local talent," Dravid said.
The Bangalorean was also of the opinion that the International Cricket Council would find a suitable position for IPL in the Future Tours Programme. "I am sure ICC will look into it and find a suitable place in the FTP to avoid losing players midway through the tournament," he said.
