Congress conspiracy?
What has former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah’s tears (which he shed recently addressing his supporters), senior Congress leader Jaffer Sharief’s resignation threat and former chief minister S M Krishna's reported unhappiness with the party have in common.
According to BJP leader and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa these developments are somehow linked to the "clandestine and internal poll arrangement" between the Congress and the JD(S). "Some of their own leaders have resented the move", Yeddyurappa said.
Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of a function on Monday, Yeddyurappa charged that an internal arrangement has been hatched in contesting the polls between the Congress and JD(S). "However, their conspiracy will not work. The BJP will get full majority", he said.
Making an ass of voters
Vatal Nagaraj believes in making news with his gimmicks all the time. Accordingly, the manifesto released by his party, Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha contains one of the party’s several assurances - a special scheme for the development of donkeys.
Vatal, who has used donkeys during his many protest marches, explained: “Donkey are being neglected in the state.” He proposes developing new breeds of donkeys and to set up “donkey protection centres” in every district. On hopes Vatal is not for making donkeys out of voters, for donkey also stands an icon for Fools’ Day !
Gowda upset with ‘highhandedness’
JD(S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda is an angry man. He is upset with what he termed as “highhandedness” of election officials who confiscated his four-wheeler near Mysore recently for violating model code of conduct.
Why is that Gowda is so very upset when the officials are not sparing any politician? “I was not allowed to attend the nature call also. The officials followed me till the urinals... How can they stop a former PM like this,?” Gowda said.
Filmi propaganda
The cultural wing of JD(S) has brought out two short films featuring H D Kumaraswamy’s achievement as the CM in the form of CDs. They will be screened at the party’s public meeting venues across the State.
Nowhere in 30-minute duration films, the party seeks votes. The film only depicts how Kumaraswamy worked hard for the welfare of people, especially oppressed and backward classes by holding marathon janata darshans and village stays. The CD also dwells upon the importance of a regional party in protecting the interest of the State.
Kumaraswamy, who was film producer, is projected as a hero using graphics and background music. In one of the scenes, as he walks down a tattered road, it gets asphalted -- perhaps the copy of Rajinikanth-starrer super hit Shivaji.
In another CD, which is about Bangalore, Kumaraswamy is termed as Nava Bengalurena Kanasugara. It says that Kumaraswamy is responsible for the launch of Metro rail work, formation of Bruhat Bangalore, several infrastructure projects. It also says that he strived to provide residential sites to the urban poor.
