Briefing reporters, Chairman & Managing Director V RS Natarajan said, the company’s profit before tax for the fiscal year 2007-08 stood at Rs 350 crore posting a 11 per cent growth over previous year’s Rs 316.04 crore.
The company’s order book position, he said, stood at Rs 3,795 crore as on April 1, 2008 to be serviced over the next two to three years, as against Rs 1,732 crore in previous fiscal’s April 1, 2007.
Flush with its impressive performance, the company, he added, aims to achieve a turnover of Rs 3,600 crore during the current fiscal 2008-09, a 20 per cent growth.
Further, Mr Natarajan said, the company during the year had achieved export sales of Rs 257.72 crore as compared to Rs 110.04 crore in the previous year registering a growth of 132 per cent. BEML Limited, he said, has set a target of Rs 5,000 crore to be achieved by 2013-2014, the company’s golden jubilee year.
Future plans
Sector wise, mining and construction business contributed Rs 1,797.35 crore, while defence business posted improved sales from Rs 743 crore to Rs 770.38 crore.
Likewise, the rail and metro business more than doubled its sales to Rs 272.43 crore up from Rs 105.48 crore. The company’s future plans for expansion and diversification, Mr Natarajan said, include high capacity dumpers, metro coaches for broad gauge and standard gauge, stainless steel coaches, airport link high speed trains and bogies for high speed trains.
