Corporates wake up to HIV
The Indian corporate sector must address the issue of HIV/ AIDS to avoid a scenario where it will affect industrial production, Dr Karan Bir Singh, principal specialist, German Technological Co-operation Health sector support, India, has said.
Speaking at a workshop organised by GTZ and The Energy Research Centre (TERI), he said the situation needs immediate attention. “We have 20.4 million people affected by the disease. Absenteeism of HIV-infected workers has brought down production in African countries; this may repeat in India too,” he said.
