“In the light of the changed political situations and constituency delimitation, I have decided to contest from Doddaballapur,” Chennigappa said after he gave a visit to Siddaganga mutt and sought blessings of Sri Shivakumara Swamiji.
“As per the ‘commands’ issued by former prime minister and JD(S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda, I am contesting from Doddaballapur and my son Gaurishankar will contest from Madhugiri as JD(S) candidates. Deve Gowda is a fatherly figure and his words are verdict for us,” he said.
Madhugiri, which was a reserved constituency earlier has now become a general constituency. Koratagere, which was earlier represented by Chennigappa has now become a reserved constituency. Hence Chennigappa has lost his constituency.
In another significant development Bellary mine owners have already declared that they will field a BJP candidate against Gaurishankar in Madhugiri. With this political situation in Madhugiri has heated up.
Apart from Chennigappa the other leaders who have lost their constituencies are D Nagarajaiah of JD(S) (Huliyurudurga), former Congress ministers T B Jayachandra (Kallambella) and G Parameshwar (Madhugiri).
