All good things come in small packages. This surely holds true for the petite pretty actress Minissha Lamba. The Delhi lass was in town recently to promote her upcoming release Shaurya. Starring opposite ace actor Rahul Bose, Minissha plays a war reporter named Kavya Shastri in the film. Not many know but Minissha would have been a journalist if films had not happened. So, is this a dream come true?
Metrolife found out in a conversation with Minissha on Shaurya, upcoming films, starring opposite Ranbir Kapoor and more.
Finally, an opportunity to play your dream profession — a war reporter as Kavya Shastri in ‘Shaurya’. Dream come true?
I am happy but this is not my dream come true because the film is not set during war times.
The story is set during peace times. My dream will be fulfiled only when there are guns, barrels and bomb explosions in the frame. Shaurya is about a court martial. I play an investigative print journalist who wants to be a star reporter. She smells something fishy in the case.
So, she personally gets involved in it, something actually considered unethical for a journalist. She collaborates with Rahul Bose to crack this case.
Shaurya resembles your debut film ‘Yahaan’. Do you agree?
Yes. Simply because of the common backdrop of army. Otherwise, my character is completely different. In Yahaan, I played a simple Kashmiri girl. Kavya Shastri is the opposite. She is fiercely independent.
Would you have been like Kavya if you were to be a real-life journalist?
Absolutely. I am almost playing myself.
As a real-life journalist, what subjects would you have taken up?
I wouldn’t want to be in India. Probably Beirut, where the situation is volatile. In comparison, India is placid. We should consider ourselves blessed.
Other projects in the pipeline.
There is Kidnap, a fiction thriller drama by Sanjay Gadhvi. I have also bagged a Yashraj film titled Bachna E Haseeno opposite Ranbir Kapoor. I am extremely happy with the way my career is shaping now.
What do you think of Ranbir Kapoor?
I think Ranbir was lovely in Saawariya. I know many people didn’t like the film but I understood the poetry behind it. Every frame was a verse. We are in the midst of shooting for Bachna E Haseeno and I must say Ranbir is a lovely young man.
And Rahul Bose?
Rahul Bose is infectious. He’s a man of great words, knowledgeable, well-aware, a great conversationalist. It’s amazing how he can talk on any topic.
So, what kind of a man do you like — Ranbir or Rahul?
A mix of both (laughs).
Any particular film genre that you want to explore now?
Period film. I am glad Indian film-makers are doing such a great job with this genre. I loved Khoya Khoya Chand and Jodhaa Akbar.
