Police Commissioner N Achuta Rao told reporters the police arrested the gang when they were planning an attack on a house near Yelahanka.
“We have been able to detect five criminal cases between May 2007 and March 2008 in Bangalore Rural district and Chikkaballapur district in which they had killed four persons and injured seven,” he said.
The accused are: Gangadri alias Gun, Narasimha Murthy, Dananaya, Govinda Reddy, Nagarau, Koteshwarayya, all residents of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh and are aged between 24 and 27.
According to the police, the gang operated by moving around with sharp weapons and started attacking people after barged into the targeted houses.
After the loot, the gang would go to the bus stand, railway station or a neighbouring town, stay there till the matter cooled down and then move towards their native Anantapur.
They were allegedly involved in supari killings and are said to have committed several crimes in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. A team headed by a senior police official will visit Anantapur to trace similar crimes.
The five cases detected by the police include:
* A 45-year old arrack vendor hacked near Ghati in Doddaballapur taluk on May 12, 2007 for Rs 1 lakh supari.
* Dacoity at a house in Thrumagondanahalli in Doddaballpur rural police station limits on January 9, 2008 and assault of three persons. A couple Ramesh and Manjula sustained injuries while one person Lokesh died. Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 60,000 was stolen.
* Three persons seriously injured after the gang broke into a house at Vapasandra village in Chikkaballapur police station limits on February 6, 2008.
A woman Krishnamma succumbed to injuries while two persons including a women were seriously injured. The gang decamped with Rs 1.5 lakh worth cash and jewellery
* Rs 2 lakh worth jewellery looted from a house in Mittemari village in Bagepalli police station limits on March 3, 2008. One person Ramaswamy was hacked to death and five people including three women were seriously injured.
* A woman Manjulamma succumbed to injuries when this group assaulted her at Udumalaar village in Gauribidnur police station limits on March 24, 2008.
