A high-level team of officials from the Centre will visit Karnataka, on Sunday, to assess the crop damage in the wake of heavy unseasonal rain.
The team led by R Abhishek, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs, is scheduled to tour nine districts of northern Karnataka from Monday, where unseasonal rain has caused heavy damage.
Governor Rameshwar Thakur and former chief minister S M Krishna had on Wednesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought the Central relief to the State under calamity relief fund.
Krishna in his memorandum to the Prime Minister put the losses inflicted in the nine districts at Rs 269.17 crore. Standing crops in an estimated 2.7 lakh hectares of land were damaged, while 1064 km of roads too were damaged. Over 630 big and small bridges also suffered damage.
