Election scene flares up in Shidlaghatta

With a few weeks left for the Legislative Assembly elections, delay in announcing the final list of candidates has triggered hot debates among the public.

When compared to the past four decades, this year, the election scene in Shidlaghatta has hot up. It seems the time when V Muniyappa and S Munishamappa were the candidates ruled the roost in the constituency, has come to an end. M Rajanna, Apsar Pasha, Shivareddy, Jayaramareddy, J V Sadashiva, Panchakshara Reddy, C V Lokesh, Krishnegowda and many other new faces have forayed into the battlefield. There are more than two ticket aspirants in each party, eclipsing the glory of old politicians.

While some try to bribe voters with money, many others seems to stretch their sinews or relying on show of strength to win the elections. However none of the parties have officially announced their candidates.

Even after successfully entering the Assembly as minister thrice previously V Muniyappa himself now seems to be struggling to get a ticket. However former legislator S Munishamappa has decided to retire from active politics and hand over the baton to his son. He has sought a ticket for his son from the Congress Party.

In BJP, C V Lokesh and Kirshnegowda have launched infighting, of course behind the screen, for the ticket. According to the sources close to the party the chances for Krishnegowda to get the ticket seems to be more than that for C V Lokesh though he has identified himself with the national-level leaders. Another advantage for Krishnegowda is that he belongs to Golla community while the JD(S) and Congress candidates are from Vokkaliga community.

The new candidates seems to break many records set in the election history for the past four decades here.
