Latest in a series of his destructive acts was the eight-wicket burst against India in the Ahmedabad Test that propelled the visitors to an innings and 90-run win.
It is not often that teams come to the sub-continent and return with a smile, but the South Africans are already looking at a series victory.
Steyn said the win has given them the momentum going into the final Test in Kanpur, beginning on April 11 at the Green Park.
"Before coming into the series, if someone had offered us a draw, we would have taken it. You don't often come here and win. But we definitely came to win and we will be going into the Kanpur Test with a mental edge," Steyn said.
The fast bowler was understandably delighted to have played a part in his country's victory.
‘We played better’
"Questions will be asked whether they played badly, but I feel we just played better. The surface suited us and that was backed up by good bowling," noted Steyn, who finished with match figures of eight for 114.
Steyn they had covered all the bases going into the final Test. "We don't know whether we will get the same kind of pitch in Kanpur. Even if we got a spinning track there, we are not worried.
Indian spinners had failed to rattle us in Chennai and Ahmedabad. So I guess, they have a problem in that area," he said.
Steyn said India have got good talent in the pace bowling department. "I have not watched them a lot, but guys like Ishant, Sreesanth and RP Singh are very talented bowlers, and they are young too," he added.
The fast bowler will be seen in action even after the series is over, and Bangalore will be his home town as he is a part of the City-based Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers.
"I am looking forward to play in the IPL. It will be exciting and I heard Bangalore is a nice city," he signed off.
