One person died of gun-shot wounds in a clash between members of two castes at Aralalu village in Ramanagara district near Kanakapura on Monday night.
Police said trouble began after a member belonging to an upper caste community made a remark which infuriated SCs who were taking out a procession to a temple.
The two groups then clashed. Two persons were injured by shots fired from a country-made pistol. One of them succumbed to injuries, while another has been admitted in a Bangalore hospital, police added.
Tension gripped the village following the incident. Police rushed additional reinforcements. Several houses and two-wheelers were torched.
The dead was identified as Manju (22) a labourer. Another person who came to his rescue Mahadeva (23) suffered injuries.
Police arrested murder accused Durgaiah (50) and seized a country made pistol from him. The situation returned to normal on Tuesday.
