Flood situation has improved in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra after rains abated in many places in the area, where over 1367 families were shifted to safer places from 51 villages on Thursday, official sources said.

Gondia district was the most affected by the floods and about 460 families were shifted to safer places, Divisional Commissioner Anand Limaye said in a release here.

Vainganga, Wardha and Andhari rivers were in spate in Chandrapur district and the administration opened gates of Irai Dam which was posing danger to 13 villages.

Meanwhile, 11 persons have so far died in rain-related incidents. Seven persons were swept away in different incidents while four lost their lives in house or wall collapses, the release said. In Nagpur district 13 houses were washed away in Kinarmakdi village as water was released from Wadgaon Irrigation Dam.

In most of the places in the region, the rain water had started receding.
