This movie is supposed to be a touching narrative about the murky world of illegal human trafficking and the trauma of those caught up in its web. But what it actually turns out to be, is a fabulous trip through some of the most stunning locales in the world.
Kaafila tracks the journey of a group of people who are travelling to UK illegally and get dumped by their shady agent in the middle of no where. After being pursued by everyone including the Russian mafia and Afghan militants, they find themselves saved by a mysterious character played by Sunny Deol.
The problem with this movie is that while most of the situations are part of a real deal, their treatment here is almost amateurish. Mann’s direction leaves you questioning the very definition of fact and fiction. And please, why the item number?? The film has been made with the most noble intentions but the screenplay has many gaping holes that allow the magnitude of the problem to slip through it.
Of the cast, no one really makes an impression. The aging Sunny Deol is no asset either. His super sonic voice sounds like someone is grating on a metal surface with a rusty nail and the acting is nothing to talk about.
Only the cinematography is worth a mention. Watch it only if you cannot afford to travel across the five continents.
