In an exceptional case, a court here has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on a woman for lodging a false complaint against her husband and rejected her appeal for enhancing her maintenance allowance.
Additional District and Session’s Judge Prithvi Raj ordered Namrata Bangara, a software engineer, to pay the compensation to her husband, also a computer engineer, under the Domestic Violence Act 2006.
It also rejected an appeal filed by Namrata seeking an enhancement of her maintenance allowance from Rs 4,000 to Rs 23,000 per month, Ankur’s counsel Rajesh Jain said, quoting the court order. Namrata, in her case, alleged that she was beaten up by Ankur over demands of dowry.
