The son of former American vice-president Al Gore has been ordered to participate in a drug detoxification programme, four weeks after being caught with drugs.
Albert Gore III, 24, was arrested on July 4 driving a Toyota Prius hybrid car at 160 kilometres per hour south of Los Angeles.
Police said they found marijuana and medications for which he did not have prescriptions.
The son of Bill Clinton’s vice-president will spend 90 days behind the closed doors of a drug rehabilitation centre, as part of his detoxification programme.
Early on Monday, he pleaded guilty before a judge in Laguna Niguel, 90 kilometres southeast of Los Angeles, and was ordered to enter a nine-month drug diversion programme, according to Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the Orange County prosecutor’s office.
“Anyone with a similar background will be eligible for the same. He didn’t get special treatment,” she said.
