After offering a government job, will the government now bear the legal expenses of freed Indian doctor Mohammed Haneef?
On Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H K Patil urged the State Government to reimburse Dr Haneef’s legal bill as a goodwill gesture.
Speaking during zero hour, Mr Patil said that the doctor had been humiliated and harassed by the Australian authorities by implicating him under false charges.
He added that the government would have to come to the aid of Dr Haneef and pay his legal bills.
Mr A M Hindasageri (Congress) said that by harassing an innocent Indian, the Australian authorities had tarnished the image of India.
“The injustice meted out to Dr Mohammed Haneef should be condemned,” he said.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said he had told the family that the government was willing to extend all possible assistance to them.
