India's top amateur Anirban Lahiri fired an opening-round 69, which handed him the sole lead at the Jaypee Open Amateur Golf Championship which commenced at the par-72 Jaypee Greens in Greater Noida on Tuesday.
Abhishek Jha was second at level-par 72, while the duo of HS Kang and Lt Col SK Lakra was tied third at one-over 73. The 14-year-old Kapil Kumar brought in a card of 74 to share the fifth place with Manav Das, Ajeetesh Sandhu, K Prabagaran and Amit Nigam. Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja had a card of 87 in his first meet as an amateur. “I am satisfied with my driving but my putter let me down,” said Jadeja.
Lahiri, who clinched the final stage of the PGTI Tour's Qualifying School, had a near-perfect round.
