Davenport to play in Bali
Former world number one Lindsay Davenport will juggle motherhood and professional tennis by returning to singles action at the WTA event in Bali in September, organisers said.
The 31-year-old quit the tour at the end of 2006 having missed much of the year with a back injury. She gave birth to a son, Jagger, in June.


Bopanna-Qureshi in quarters
Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi overcame stiff resistance from American James Cerretani and Lukas Rosol to advance to the quarterfinal of the USD 125,000 Challenger tournament at Segovia, Spain, reports PTI from New Delhi.
The third seed Indo-Pak pair got past the US-Czech pair 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 in the first round match played on Monday.
Sinkewitz not to go for ‘B’ test
T-Mobile rider Patrik Sinkewitz has withdrawn a request for a second sample to be tested after his initial positive result for elevated levels of testosterone led the team to suspend him, his lawyer said on Tuesday, reports Reuters from Berlin.
US triple jumper in dope net
Triple jumper Kenta Bell, who placed third at last month’s US Outdoor Track and Field Championships, admitted to a positive doping test from the meet.
The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced on Tuesday that Bell tested posiive for the banned substance methylprenisolone and accepted a first-offence suspenson of three months.
Prantik clinches Dhaka crown
Kolkata’s Prantik Roy won the 9th Annual International school chess championship in Dhaka after topping the chart with eight points in the nine-round Swiss league system tournament, reports UNI from New Delhi.
South Zone b’ball championship
The South Zone Basketball Championship for men and women will be held from September 11 to 15 at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium in Yousufguda, reports UNI from Hyderabad.
Host Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will take part in the championship.
F1 spy row takes a new twist
McLaren's title prospects were plunged back into doubt on Tuesday when Formula One's governing body agreed an appeal court should have the final say on the 'spy saga' gripping the sport, reports Reuters from London.
Max Mosley, president of the IAF, granted an Italian request for a review of last week's controversial FIA decision not to punish McLaren for unauthorised possession of Ferrari information. The appeal hearing is likely to be held in front of a three-judge panel in Paris at the end of August.
New Lanka selection panel
Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Asantha de Mel was re-appointed chief of the national cricket selection committee on Tuesday, which was reshuffled by the sports minister, reports AFP from Colombo.
De Mel and Don Anurasiri were retained from the previous selection panel and will be joined by Mahes Goonathilake and Ranjith Madurasinghe in the new committee.
Amal Silva and Shabir Asgerally were dropped from the previous panel.
