The bundh, called by Malnad Shanti Samiti, in three taluks of Chikmagalur district was total.
The police security had been beefed up as the naxals had warned of dire consequences if the people supported the bundh.  The bundh was observed in Koppa, Sringeri and N R Pura taluks to boost the morale of the police force and demanding restoration of peace in Malnad region.
In Balehonnur, Hariharapura, Jayapura and N R Pura taluk the response was good. Commercial establishments, banks and schools remained closed and in Sringeri the tourists, who were unaware of the bundh, were put to difficulty as the hotels were closed.
