Namma India@60, in association with Deccan Herald, will organise a Freedom Run on August 15 to commemorate India’s 60th Independence Day.
The free 0.5-km run will be held at 11 am on the sidelines of Ulsoor Lake (Annaswamy Mudaliar Road) from the junction opposite RBI Staff Quarters to the junction near the main gate of the lake (near Foto Flash).
Freedom Run will mark the culmination of an ongoing campaign by the organisers to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among children from around 300 Bangalore schools. With ‘Present’ing the `Past’ to ‘Future’ as its theme, the run is expected to feature 3,000 students, apart from freedom fighters, ex-servicemen, retired police personnel, movie stars, sportspersons, artists, teachers and NGOs.
The highlight of the run will be a passing-the-baton ceremony, wherein elders will hand over a baton to students, who will then take the baton in a relay formation up to CMR National Public School Grounds, HRBR III Block for a cultural programme and prize distribution function, at 4.30 pm.
On completion of the run, participants can view Unity Thorans — thorans contributed by school students — tied across Ulsoor Lake.
