The excess rainfall that lashed over the district so far has caused a total loss of over Rs 41.50 crore, said Deputy Commissioner Dr V Chandrashekar addressing a news conference on Tuesday.
Eloborating on the losses, he said that total area of 136.35 acres of paddy fields have been damaged causing an estimated loss of Rs 7 lakhs, 3,218 acres of horticulture land have been damaged with the loss of Rs 4.68 crores and Coffee crops worth Rs 5 crores has been damaged.
He said that apart from this, 200 families at Somanahalli have lost their homes as Bhadra river had overflown and these people have been rehabilitated.
One person and 10 animals have been killed in the district. A total of 1,321 km road, 223 houses and 214 bridges have been damaged, he added. The district has received 1,479 mm of rainfall and since there are all possibilities of heavy rainfall persisting in the district, he said that the district administration has made all the necessary arrangements to face the situation.
He said that government has released a sum of Rs 3 crore as rain damage compensation of which Rs 1 crore was released earlier. As per the direction of the district-in-hrage minister, he said that a sum of Rs 1.25 crore has been released to NR Pura, Koppa, Shringeri, Rs 1 crore to Mudigere and the remaining amount will be utilised for Tharikere and Chikmagalur.
