Dakshina Kannada district has incurred a loss of Rs 51.24 crore in the heavy rains that lashed the district, said District-in-Charge Minister B Nagaraj Shetty.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, he said PWD department has incurred a loss of Rs 708.05 lakh, Zilla Panchayat engineering division Rs 1,654.15 lakh, minor irrigation department Rs 113 lakh, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) Rs 1,500 lakh, Mulky Town Panchayat Rs 21 lakh, Belthangady Town Panchayat Rs 6 lakh, Puttur Town Municipality Council Rs 27.50 lakh, Ullal Town Municipality Council Rs 30.25 lakh, Bantwal Town Municipality Council Rs 80.50 lakh, Moodabidri Town Municipality Council Rs 26 lakh, Sullia Town Panchayat Rs 23.09 lakh, Ports and Fisheries department Rs 510 lakh, Horticulture department due to arecanut koleroga Rs 144 crore, Mescom Rs 163.32 lakh and private houses 117 lakh.
Mr Shetty informed that Rs 4.10 crore has been released to undertake immediate relief works in the district.
State government will be urged to release money to undertake relief works.
He said a total of 10 people including three sailors of have been killed and four have been injured in the district. Mr Shetty informed that a total of 1,214 houses have been damaged in the district incurring a loss of Rs 117 lakh.
Agricultural crops have been damaged in 2.60 hectares of land while 850 km roads have been damaged in the district. As many as 256 culverts, 220 public buildings, 70 walls, 8 drinking water sources and 1,854 electric poles including 82 transformers have been damaged in the rains.
He informed that National Highway Engineers, Zilla Panchayat Engineers and MCC engineers have been directed to fill the potholes at the earliest.
District-in-Charge Secretary Bharathlal Meena informed that all the developmental works including vented dam, drinking water projects, works related to airport will expedited.
Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao, Superintendent of Police Sathish Kumar, MLAs Shakunthala Shetty, Krishna J Palemar and others were present.
CM CANCELS AERIAL SURVEY
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy was forced to cancel the aerial survey of the flood affected regions of Dakshina Kannada district owing to the bad weather in Agumbe.
CM was on IAF helicopter to conduct the aerial survey of the district. The helicopter was later diverted to Kumarapattanam.
TARIFF REVISION
KPTCL Managing Director Bharathlal Meena informed that KERC will decide on the power tariff revision after hearing.
He said though all the dams are full, the power consumption has increased by 20 per cent last year. The storage capacity and the power generation is same inspite of good rainfall.
