Air India Express will introduce four more international flights to Sharjah by October 25, said Bajpe Airport Director M R Vasudev.
Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday, he said that with the introduction of four more flights as many as 14 international flights will fly from Mangalore.
He said in the last financial year (2006-07) Bajpe airport has incurred a profit of Rs 83 lakh. The target for 2007-08 is Rs 6 crore, he added.
New terminal
Mr Vasudev informed that the new terminal will be completed within 20 months. Land acquisition for the new terminal has been completed. A proposal has been sent for the land acquisition for parking and other utilities near new terminal. Nearly 56 acres of land is yet to be acquired in Kenjar and handed over to the Airports Authority.
He said the evacuees have been paid Rs 58,000. The government is yet to pay Rs 70,000 each for two adult members in the family. The evacuees will be rehabilitated at Siddarthnagar, he added.
Health unit
Mr Vasudev informed that MAHE has set up a health care unit with a doctor and a nurse at the airport premises. MAHE pays Rs 15,000 per month to the airport for the facility. The health care unit attends to the passengers in case of emergency.
Railway station
He said that he has sent a proposal to the government for a railway station at Malavoor. If the railway station is commissioned then the influx of passengers will be increased as the railway station is one-and-half kilometre from the new terminal building.
New facilities
Mr Vasudev informed that foreign exchange unit, sweet stalls, cashewnuts stall, have been opened in the airport premises. Placing of ad streamers at the arrival hall has already been approved.
