Mangalore:

“We come across a number of embarrassing moments concerning senior citizens in our daily life. They are a bunch of people who have always been neglected,” said Head Quarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma.

Speaking after releasing the identity cards to senior citizens here on Saturday, he offered any help from his part in implementing schemes concerning senior citizens.

Deputy Director of ZP Department of Women and Child Development Gertrude Veigas condemned the generation that forgets their duty towards their aged parents who have toiled their whole life for their children’s welfare.

She informed that the card will entitle senior citizens to concession in train/ bus fares and a variety of other benefits.

The programme was jointly organised by the Mangalore Senior Citizens Association and the Lions Club Mangalore at the Lions Seva Mandir in Mallikatte. Association  Secretary Ramesh Rao presented a report of the Association’s activities.

Vice President P Sadashiva Kini welcomed. Lions President P S Prabhakar, President of the Association M J Hegde, Treasurer T Gopal Krishna Kini and others were present. Identity cards were distributed around 600 senior citizens on the occasion.
