The health check up service introduced by the Central government for the Beedi workers is at progress in the taluk.
The Beedi workers in the taluk who suffer from Cancer, Asthma, Heart and other diseases have been facilitated by the central government by forming a separate health fund.
Aziz Seth, former central government president of State Beedi Workers Association and the then labour minister of the state was successful in pressurising the government to construct a hospital for the workers and also provide health insurance for these workers.
There are already health units being functional at Mysore, Bangalore, Chennapatna, Kolar, Bijapur and Hunasur.
Meanwhile, in Kolar, poor children of beedi workers are provided with scholarships who pursue their education from 5th standard to higher levels of education.
Medicines have been provided by the mobile health check up team from the last six years. Every Tuesday's and Fridays a Doctor, a nurse, and a pharmacist will form a part of the mobile unit and provide service by distributing the required medicines on spot.
The facility is provided to only those workers who possess identity cards and more treatment is provided for those who suffer from serious ailments, say the doctors of the mobile health unit.
