Bullet pendant grounds woman
A woman passenger, who was wearing a bullet as a pendant around her neck, was briefly detained by security officials at the Anna International Airport here on Saturday, PTI reports from Chennai.
Airport sources said during frisking, it was found that Noor Bi Kaleel (52) was wearing a 5.56 mm bullet, covered by threads, as the locket for a chain.
IIT student hangs self
An IIT student allegedly committed suicide on Saturday by hanging himself in his hostel room, police said, PTI reports from Mumbai.
Balkrishna Gupta, who hailed from Kanpur, was found hanging inside room number 129 of hostel number 12 in IIT’s campus located in North West Mumbai’s Powai, they said.
Guptaleft a note saying he was taking the extreme step due to some personal reasons and added that no one else was responsible for it, they added.
Scolding drives kid to death
A school student in Nagaur district committed suicide after her teacher scolded her for not completing homework, UNI reports from Jaipur. The teacher is absconding.
Seema Kunwar of Shubdh Vikas Vidya Mandir in Kuchaman City committed suicide on Thursday, after her teacher Prabhu Singh reprimanded her.
4 Indians killed in road mishap
At least four Indians were killed and four others sustained injuries when a minibus in which they were travelling collided head-on with a speeding bus on Emirates Road here, a senior police officer said, PTI reports from Dubai.
Diamonds stolen
Diamonds worth Rs 2.5 crore were stolen from a firm in the city here, police said on Saturday, PTI reports from Surat.
Police suspect that three nationals from Nepal who were working as peons in the firm, located at Kapodara locality, are allegedly behind the theft. The relatives of the three suspects living in the city have been questioned.
48 Pak fishermen released
Around forty eight Pakistani fishermen lodged in a jail in Jamnagar for intruding into Indian waters were today released, official sources said, reports PTI from Vadodara.
The fishermen are being taken to Wagah border to be handed over to Pakistani authorities on August 14 which is the Independence day of Pakistan, sources added.
This release is part of an agreement reached between two countries at the recent Home Secretary-level meeting held in Delhi last month.
Earlier, on June 30 India had released 50 Pakistani civilians, including 10 fishermen, after which Pakistan had responded by releasing 50 Indian fishermen most of whom were from Gujarat.
