Darshan enters main draw
Darshan Vernekar scored a 21-18 win over P Venkatesh to qualify for the men’s singles main draw of the second MS Ramaiah Anandashram State-ranking badminton tournament at Canara Union Charitable Trust on Saturday.

Other qualifiers:
Men:
Singles: Irshad, Jagadeesh Prasad, Anil Pradhan, Srinath Subhash, Sunil Varma, Sanjith, Romit Dodeja.
Doubles: Srinath S/ Varun Bhat, Shiv Kumar/ Naveen, Mahesh/ Varun, Jagadish P/ Ashwal, Bhushan/ Sanjith, HS Vinay/ Arjun Rai, Devnath/ Varun Prasad.

DBHA ‘B’ trounce Regal HC
Gautam (2nd & 17th) and Pamba (11th & 36th) scored a brace each as Dhanraj Ballal Hockey Academy ‘B’ drubbed Regal Hockey Club 6-0 in the State ‘C’ Division hockey league at KSHA on Saturday. Rajan (12th) and Shiva (14th) netted the other goals for the winners.

Bangalore Friends registered an easy 3-1 victory over Naveen Hockey Club ‘A’ in the day’s other match.
With this victory, DBHA ‘B’ have qualified from Pool D, along with Bangalore Friends from Pool H for the second phase commencing from August 18.

Bellary Hockey Club: 6 (Pramod 10th, 17th, 28th, Ravi K  40th, Shivu 57th, Naveen 59th)  bt Royal Hockey Club: 1 (Srinivas 58th).

Bangalore Friends: 3 (Micheal Bakes 21st, 43rd, Philip Sanjay 34th) bt Naveen Hockey Club ‘A’: 1 (Chandrashekar 3rd)

BMS rout Ryan International
Laxman Singh and Vikas Kalkae found the target six times each as BMS blanked a hapless Ryan International School 22-0 in the G S Randhawa Memorial inter-school hockey tournament on Saturday.

Singh scored in the second, fourth, 10th, 26th, 28th and 35th minutes of play, while Kalkae netted in the seventh, eight, 15th, 17th, 19th and 20th minutes. Anand Murthy (First , 11th, 30th), Nagender (6th), Nitish (18th, 32nd), Gurinder Rangi (30th, 38th, 40th) and Vinayak (16th) scored the rest of the goals.

In another match of the day, Government Azad School, Bellary, outplayed St Patrick’s High School 7-0. Laxman scored four goals — in the ninth, 16th, 47th and 48th minutes of the match respectively. Maruthi (fifth and sixth) scored a brace and Pramod (45th) netted the other goal to complete the rout.
