Crop insurance to continue

With the monsoon havoc this year, the government will continue the implementation of the national crop insurance scheme, said assistant agriculture director, in a release.

The aim of this scheme is to give crop insurance and economic support to farmers whose crops have suffered due to natural calamities, disease and pest attacks. All the farmers who grow maize who grow maize  should compulsorily pay their crop insurance before August 31, and inform them, said the release.

Small and marginal farmers will get 10 per cent concession in their insurance installments. To derive benefit from this scheme all the farmers have been asked to contact the nearest farmers’ contact centres, said the release.

Written exams for constables’ appointment

The written exams for the police department’s citizen and women police posts will be held on September 9. In order to give confidence to the poor students to face the exams the free competitive exam guidance centre at the Government Arts College will conduct free training classes, said the principal of the college Prof T Gangadharaiah in a release.

Applications invited: Applications have been invited for the newly approved pre-metric hostel for girls at the district’s Chikkanayankanhalli by the Minorities department. The students studying in fifth to ten standards are eligible to apply.

75 per cent of the seats is reserved for minorities and the remaining 25 per cen tis for backward classes schedule caste. Those who apply for this should live within 5 kms. The annual family income should be less than Rs 15,000.The admitted students will be given free food, accommodation, notebooks, writing materials and uniforms. The applications can be had from Executive Officers, Taluk Panchayat, Chikkanayakanahalli, said the release.

Meet to fight for internal reservation

In order to evolve a strategy to demand a separate reservation for the Madiga community which has a very large population among the schedule castes, a meeting has been called on August 25 at the Nirikshana mandir, said District Madiga Dandora vice president Narasimha in a release.
