Water clogged roads have been causing inconvenience to the vehicle owners in Koppa taluk. Huge potholes on Bhandigadi-Kammaradi road and Sakrebail roads have added to the nightmare to the commuters.
A bus which got stuck in the potholes at Sakrebail disrupted the movement of vehicles for sometime. Huge potholes at Jaladurga in Koppa-Chikmagalur road have resulted in several mishaps. The two-wheeler riders have expressed their anger by staging a protest in an unique manner by planting banana plants on the potholes.
The movement of iron laden lorries on Balagadi-Koppa-Sringeri have damaged the roads and also several walls in Koppa ghat. Bridges in Balagadi and Hariharapura have developed cracks.
The severely battered roads in Kalasapura-Thenginamararasthe, Kogre-Menasinahadya road, Heggarukodige-Meguru road, Koppa-Gunavanthe road, Kesave-Siddaramata road have put large number road users into hardship.
The usual rainfall in Koppa taluk during the period is 2,352 mm while this year taluk has already received 2,633 mm rainfall. As much as 60 per cent of arecanut crops have developed ‘koleroga’. Half of the paddy fields have not been cultivated due to heavy rainfall. Land slides have occurred in several places.
