Heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds which lashed the city on Monday left several key streets and important crossings waterlogged and affected suburban train services, reports said.
Many arterial roads and railway lines have been waterlogged. The most affected areas were Amharst Street, Lake Gardens, Cathedral Road in the city and Jadavpur, Taratala and Behala in its southern fringes.
Local train services have been affected with trains running late at Sealdah and Howrah divisions of the Eastern Railway.
Several low-lying areas were left submerged and strong gusts of wind accompanied by torrential rains compounded the problem.
According to the MeT office here, the inclement weather is likely to continue for another day. The heavy rains, caused by a depression in the north-west Bay of Bengal, also affected neighbouring Bihar and Orissa.
