Heights of art
Sagar: If you thought food grains were used only for cooking purposes, then you’re in for a surprise. For, they are used in the making of many items of decorative value too. Meet N Chandrashekar and Gowri from Sirivanthe of Sagar taluk who have the expertise of making artifacts with ears of corn of paddy plants.
Their creativity was explored in a big manner in Dharmasthala recently when the Green Foundation of Bangalore had organised the Seed Fair. The artifacts made by this couple mesmerised visitors to no end. Further, the couple had decorated everything, including the dais, with their work of arts, made of paddy.
“This is a very difficult form of art. First of all, we have to select raw, well-grown ears of corn, give it artistic shapes with the use of colours and glue and then keep it in the Sun to dry,” say the couple.
According to them, a minimum of four hours is needed to make one piece of art.
They also wish to teach this unique and eye catching art to those interested.
