Vivekananda College posted a facile 25-13, 25-12 win over Vijaya College in a Group D encounter in the boys’ section of the State-level College volleyball championship which got under way here at the Sri Kanteerava stadium outdoor courts on Monday.
In a totally one-sided encounter -- quite the order of the day -- which lasted a little under 25 minutes, Vivekanada barely broke sweat as spiker Saravana excelled at the court with some hard smashes which the Vijaya defenders found too hot to handle.
In the first set, backed up by some excellent blocking by Suresh, Saravana pierced the rival defence with his on-court smashes to which Vijaya defenders had no answers as Vivekanada raced to a comfortable 14-6 lead, from which there was no looking back. The plot was no different in the second set and even the change of courts didn’t bring any luck to Vijaya as Vivekananda raced to a 5-0 lead.
Poor reception and too many unforced errors cost Vijaya dear as at no stage of the game did they look like having any chance except for a brief period when spiker Siddarth retrieved a few points for them to reduce the deficit.
It was fitting that Saravana put an emphatic end to Vijaya College’s misery.
Champions Surana College began their title defence in style with a 25-23, 25-21 victory over BHS, Jayanagar in a Group B fixture held earlier in the day..
