As the country would be sleeping through the night of August 14 in wait of nation’s 60th Independence Day, a group of tribal students accompanied by villagers of Gudumgere would be trekking a hill with 60 torch lights. And on the morning of August 15, they would hoist the national flag on the hill of Makalidurg in Doddaballapur taluk.
The event organised by International Academy of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (IAMAS) and Rotary Mysore Mid-town Adventure Foundation was formally launched, on Tuesday, as Governor T N Chaturvedi lit the 60th torch, supposed to add on to the torch lights parade by the tribal kids.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chaturvedi said, the initiative was appreciable, since it would integrate tribal children with other kids, and lead to inclusive and coherent progress of the nation.
The tribal kids are high school students of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement school in Sargur and belong to tribal communities located around Kabini river.
IAMAS chairman Mr Solanki said the celebration would continue with six of its members from Karnataka and Goa participating in the National Mountain Biking Expedition from Leh to Lama Yari, organised by Youth Hostels Association of India.
