Seshadripuram police arrested one person on charges of misappropriation of money on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Gopinath Rao (61).
According to the police, Rao joined Mother India Logistitics Private Limited, Bangalore, as a project manager. The company took up construction of an 8-lane road in Tamodit in Assam in September 2006 at a cost of Rs 240 crore project.
The company officials used to send money from Bangalore to Tamodit towards speedy completion of the project. Rao took away Rs 40 lakh meant for the construction, and deposited the same in his account in Punjab National Bank and created fake records towards expenditure made.
Seshadripuram police inspector B Nagesh Kumar told Deccan Herald, “Officials smelt hanky-panky when the audit work for the last financial year was completed in April.”
