One arrested for swindling
Seshadripuram police arrested one person on charges of misappropriation of money on Tuesday. The accused Gopinath Rao (61) had joined Mother India Logistitics Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, as a project manager. The company took up construction of an 8-lane road in Tamodit in Assam in Sept 2006 at a cost of Rs 240 crore project.
Company officials used to send money from Bangalore to Tamodit for the project. Rao took away Rs 40 lakh meant for the construction, and deposited the same in his account in Punjab National Bank and created fake records towards expenditure made. Officials smelt hanky-panky when the audit work for the last financial year was completed in April. Rau was summoned to the office and was arrested.
Four burglars held
East Division police arrested four persons on charges of hatching a conspiracy to burgle houses and also recovered jewellry worth Rs 50,000, Rs 17,300 cash, a fax machine worth Rs 7,000 and lethal weapons from them. The accused are Dorairaju (33), a resident of Vinodnagar, Ramesh (35), Vinobnagar, Bhumi alias Ganesh (18), Kalasipalya and Vijay (20), Kalasipalya.
Acting on a tip off, the police arrested them when they were discussing their modus operandi to burgle houses around Kalasipalya and also recovered the stolen stash. One of the accused Dorairaju is an old hand in the business and the police also unearthed two cases of house thefts and three case of burglary lodged with Kalasipalya police connected to him.
Two killed in road mishaps
Two persons were killed on the spot in separate mishaps on Monday. A goods tempo knocked down a bike in Peenya traffic police limits, instantly killing its 40 year-old rider. The deceased is Gangadhar Murthy.
The tempo driver fled from scene, abandoning his vehicle. In another incident a 22-year-old motorist was killed when a soft ware company bus knocked him down. The mishap occurred in Marathalli. The bus driver is absconding.
