Reliance Retail, which, on Tuesday, opened its first hypermarket here, and plans to open 30 more such superstores across the country, will set up two in Bangalore.
Besides Bangalore, the company will be setting up six such marts in New Delhi under the Reliance Mart brand, five each in Punjab and Andhra Pradesh and three in Gujarat, all at an investment of Rs 375 crore by the year-end, according to Reliance Hypermark CEO K Radhakrishnan. Over 500 such superstores across the country are planned by 2010.
The company is expected to spend around Rs 2,500-3,000 in developing each sq ft, according to senior company officials. The hypermarket format is the latest to be unveiled by Reliance Retail, which last year unveiled its fresh food format store Reliance Fresh, followed by consumer electronics store Reliance Digital.
New services
The hypermarket would house various new services under one roof like in-house tailoring, shoe repair outlet, watch repair, laundry service, photo shop and bakery among others, Mr Radhakrishnan pointed out.
It would also provide home delivery service to its customers. The store would also house a health and wellness store providing pharmaceuticals to the customers, he added.
