Three lakh children from 300 schools in the City, now, know ‘Namma India’ better. Thanks to Namma India @ 60.
Namma India Trust — an NGO, in association with Deccan Herald, carried out an endeavour to make schoolchildren familiar with India, its history, freedom struggle, freedom fighters and to inculcate patriotism among them.
The two-month long programme started on June 17 this year and concluded on August 15.
All the participants took the ‘Seven-Point oath’ designed by former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. Each school submitted a research book on 60 freedom fighters, made by students of class VII to class X. On the occasion of the Independence Day, 3,000 children participated in ‘Freedom Run’ from Ulsoor RBI Staff Quarters to Ulsoor Lake and lakhs of ‘UNITY thorans’ were tied around the Ulsoor lake.
Cultural heritage
Some adults, who participated in the event, passed on the Tri-Colour to the students as a symbol of passing on the cultural heritage to the new generation, in ‘Passing the BATON,’ activity, which started from Stuart Tank Circle to CMR National Public School Grounds, HRBR Layout.
On all the nine Sundays during Namma India @ 60, 3,500 children participated in cultural activities and competitions held by the organisers. Mr D B Dutta,Vice-President, The Printers (Mysore) Pvt Ltd, gave away memento and prizes to almost 500 winners of different contests.
