10 persons grilled
According to sources, Nelamangala police grilled more than 10 persons in the past two days in and around Nelamangala to get more details on the kidney racket.
These men reportedly worked as agents and used to identify poor labourers and farmers, including women to sell their kidneys. However, none of them have been arrested.
“There may be many such agents in and around Nelamangala, Magadi, Kollegal, Mandya and Chamarajnagar,” said a police officer.
Acquitted
“A kidney racket was busted in 1994, but the lower court acquitted the accused as the police failed to present enough evidence. Another such racket came to light in 2002 and the case was handed over to COD. More than 1,000 kidneys were allegedly sold with the help of doctors and agents,” he added.
