Oppn to development works will not be tolerated: Acharya
DH News Service, Udupi:
"Unnecessary oppositions creating disturbances in the district will not be tolerated and individuals indulging into such activities will be taught an apt lesson," said District-in-Charge Minister Dr V S Acharya addressing the 60th Independence Day celebration in Udupi.

“The State government is dedicated to bring about overall development of the district. In such a scenario, unnecessary oppositions creating disturbances in the district will not be tolerated and individuals indulging into such activities will be taught an apt lesson,” said District-in-Charge Minister Dr V S Acharya addressing the 60th Independence Day celebration in Udupi on Wednesday.

He said that after the coalition government came into power in the State, it has been allotting lot of funds for the developmental projects and as a result, several developmental projects have been undertaken in Udupi district. But unfortunately some section of people with vested interest have been opposing these developments.

He clarified that there is no space for Naxal activities in the district and any such activities will be taken into consideration seriously.

“The citizens living in the Naxal prone areas need not worry or be petrified. Instead, it is time we all strive to face and handle all the problems haunting the district unitedly,” Dr Acharya said.

As far as roads are concerned, he said that the Udupi-Manipal connectivity road will be repaired soon. Already 85 per cent of land acquisition has been completed and the remaining process is in the last stage.

The entire project will cost an estimated amount of Rs 7 crores while the road repair project of entire district will cost Rs 35 crore.

He informed that the project of developing Surathkal-Kundapur National Highway at a cost of Rs 735 crore has been prepared.  MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Zilla Panchayat President B N Shankar Poojary, Urban Development Authority President K T Poojary and others were present.

Sun spoils the cake

The temperature was at its best on Wednesday as a result of which the cadets who were on the ground to take part in the parade started to faint unable to bare the heat. Taking note of this, Dr Acharya instantaneously put an end to his ‘Marathon speech’ and read out only half the content of 15 pages long ready speech.

The programmes that followed lacked the variety that was showcased last year, clearly showing lack of preparation, it is said.
