District-in-Charge Minister Ramachandra Gowda called upon the people to help police department in maintaining peace and order by giving information of those who are indulging in anti-social activities, spreading rumours and creating unrest in the society.
Delivering 60th Independence Day speech at the Fort premises after unfurling the tri-colour flag, he said peace and order is prevailing in the district. Police personnel are watchful and are functioning well without giving any scope for untoward incidents in the district.
The department is all prepared to tackle even minor incidents. He called upon the people to be watchful on those who try to spoil the harmony in the district and inform the police on the same.
Rs 10 lakh released
Mr Gowda said to promote tourism and to develop tourists spots in the district, a proposal of Rs 2.50 crore has been sent to the government. Government has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh for the construction of concrete helipad at Madikeri. All the measures will be taken to construct helipad at the earliest.
A proposal has been sent to release amount for setting up of Regional Science Centre in Madikeri. The work on the Centre will commence as soon as the Government releases the fund for the purpose.
He said five acres of land has been identified for the construction district administration complex at Karavelebadaga in Madikeri. The Government has released a sum of Rs 4 crore for the purpose. Chief Architect has been directed to prepare a blueprint of the building. The work will commence soon.
The Minister also informed that Rs 30 lakh has been released under Malnad Abhivridhi Yojane for the modernisation of Madikeri Town Municipality Council office. The work on modernisation will be undertaken after the estimate is prepared.
Education
Mr Gowda informed that under Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana, measures have been initiated to construct 105 additional classrooms, 6 school building, and 19 classrooms under state project.
He also announced that 12 months Residential Bridge Course (Ashakirana) will be implemented in the district for school dropouts to bring them back to the mainstreams of the education.
He said it has been decided to constitute Arogya Nairmalya Samithi in all the revenue villages of Kodagu district. Each committee will receive Rs 10,000 from the Centre to undertake works related to cleanliness. As many as 350 committees have been opened in the district. Another 121 committees will be constituted soon.
Under Bhagyalakshmi Yojane, 847 beneficiaries have been registered in the district. Lt General (retd) B C Nanda, MLA K G Bopaiah, former minister M M Nanaiah, Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan, SP Dr K V Trilokchandra, ZP President H S Ashok, Vice-President B C Neelamma among others were present.
