The proposal to shift the private bus stand that has been lying unused for several years to the University of Agriculture land will be discussed with the Minister of Agriculture soon, said District-in-Charge Minister Ramachandre Gowda addressing the gathering at the 60th Independence Day celebration held in the town on Wednesday.
He said that the district administration is ready to provide alternate land area of 5 acres if the University of Agriculture vacates the proposed land for shifting of private bus stand and in this regard, a meeting will be held with the Minister of Agriculture on Thursday and a decision will taken accordingly.
Mr Gowda informed that since the MLA has opposed the proposal of establishing Regional Science Centre on specified land in Karnangeri village, the same will be established in another area after a survey. He said that the present Regional Transport Office, which is functioning in the residence of General Thimmaiah will be shifted and the residence will be restored and developed as a monument.
Answering a query as to why he did not hold a visit to the district when the entire district was perturbed by heavy rains, he said that he had visited the three taluks earlier and he had to visit other regions of the State, which were facing damages of over Rs 1,000 crores due to excess rainfall.
He said that the State government has so far released a sum of Rs 6.5 crores, which is much higher when compared to other districts. More funds will flow in for the district once the Central government releases the fund, he added.
The locals during Mr Gowda’s previous visit were unhappy with the fact that he had returned without visiting areas such as Mangaladevinagar and others where lot of property damages had occurred. When questioned about the same, he said that he had visited all the regions and if the locals still have complaints, he would specifically visit them to spend ‘leisure time’ with them sometime.
